How Responses Are Counted In Zigpoll Surveys
If you're wondering how your survey data is tallied up, look no further! The way it works is: whenever a participant takes one of your surveys, we count it as a response. Responses are the unit your plan is measured in, and one person taking one survey is always one response, however many questions the survey has. For example, consider the survey below:
- How did you hear about us? - 1 answer
- What do you think of the shopping experience? - 1 answer
- How would you rate our customer service? - 1 answer
- Is there anything else you would like to share? - 1 answer
- Thanks! Use code take10 for 10% off. - 0 answers
In the example above 1 response is counted when someone takes the survey, whether they complete it from start to finish or drop off half way through. Each question they answer is tracked separately as an answer, so a full run through this survey also records 4 answers. Note that the final slide is a thank you message rather than a question, so it doesn't ask anything and doesn't record an answer.
We count this way so that the length of your survey never works against you. Ask one question or twenty, a participant taking it uses one response from your plan.
Responses and answers
You'll see two different words on your dashboard. Here's what each one means:
- Responses - one participant taking your survey. This is the number your plan limit applies to.
- Answers - one question answered by one participant. A single response can produce many answers, one for each question they answer.
So a 4 question survey taken by 10 people who each finish it would show 10 responses and 40 answers.
Previews of your own surveys from the Zigpoll dashboard and synthetic (AI) research never count as responses.
