How Responses Are Counted In Zigpoll Surveys
If you're wondering how your survey data is tallied up, look no further! The way it works is: whenever a participant answers a question, we count it as a response. Responses are the unit your plan is measured in. For example, consider the survey below:
- How did you hear about us? - 1 response
- What do you think of the shopping experience? - 1 response
- How would you rate our customer service? - 1 response
- Is there anything else you would like to share? - 1 response
- Thanks! Use code take10 for 10% off. - 0 responses
In the example above 4 responses would be counted when someone completes the survey from start to finish. If someone drops off half way through the survey then it would only count 2 responses. Note that the final slide is a thank you message rather than a question, so it doesn't ask anything and doesn't count toward your plan.
We tally your data in this way in order to account for partial submissions in case someone drops off mid-way through your survey.
Responses and submissions
You'll see two different words on your dashboard. Here's what each one means:
- Responses - one question answered by one participant. This is the number your plan limit applies to.
- Submissions - one participant taking your survey. A single submission can produce many responses, one for each question they answer.
So a 4 question survey taken by 10 people who each finish it would show 10 submissions and 40 responses.
With that in mind, we also have a wide variety of custom plans available if you're not finding one that fits your needs. This is typically the case for longer-form surveys that have a lot of questions within a single survey.
